Why do we look down on baggy jeans and hat backwards and ok with cowboys?

I live in a pretty big city and i’ve noticed the amount of negative attention toward kids/people who wear baggy jeans w/ their hat backwards/sideways, and yet those people walking around w/ cowboy hat and boots are ok? Why is that?

unfortunately certain styles are connected with negative things such as gang violence and such. . . its very common to hear an older person describe a younger person with that style as “dressing like a gang banger” sad but true

One style of clothing imitates/gives an image of prisoners and criminals, the other a type of rural profession, simple as that.
Baggy pants came from non specified clothing fitting loosely on convicts, and having your pants sag came from gay prisoners, I’m not sure where the backwards cap comes from though, that might be an interesting topic to look up.

Both looks are pretty stupid. Cowboys wear jeans that are so tight that I’m almost afraid that their junk doesn’t fall off from lack of blood flow. Saggy, baggy jeans just make it look like you’re wearing huge diapers that are in serious need of changing. It gives the impressing that you’re walking around in your own feces. Not an attractive look AT ALL. People who dress like that need to grow up.
Cowboy hats are sexy though and so can boots, but few guys can pull them off without looking like a duschebag. Backwards or sideways caps are fine. . . if you’re in high school or whatever. After that, it’s time to put away childish things and dress more adult.

the whole thing about wearing the pants halfway down to the knees is an emulation of prison life where you are not allowed to have a belt. loose fitting jeans are a different thing altogether. who would want to brag about being in prison when you haven’t been? i’ve been to prison and am not proud of the fact and don’t wear my clothes to reflect prison life. if a person wants to walk around in a cowboy hat and boots in an urban setting, they are either a refugee from the prairies or are trying to look like their favourite country singer. whatever happened to looking like yourself?

If a majority of people with baggy jeans and hats worn sideways were all (or most) known to be intelligent well meaning human beings. . . there wouldn’t be a problem would there.
